Umbria was inhabited by tribes of umbrians at least since the VIIth century before our era. The Etruscans conquered the region before the Roman conquest in IIIth BC.
Orvieto was one of the main Etruscan cities. Perugia is the regional capital, among the other cities: Assisi (of San Francesco), Orvieto, Terni, Spoleto, Spello, Gubbio and Todi.
The charms of Umbria are varied : many medieval cities, its hills rather wild glazes of flowers and the beautiful Sibbilini Mounts in the east.
