Bologna is a commune with about 375.000 inhabitants, chief town of the Emilia-Romagna region. It is a very old university city (officially created in 1088), which accomodates many students, conferring its cultural and social activity.
It's an important artistic and cultural centre
Famous for its towers and its gantries in arches, the origins of the city go back at least to a millennium before Jesus-Christ.
It was always an important urban centre, first with the Etruscans (Felsina), then under the Romans (Bononia), then in the Middle Ages, when it was an important independent commune (during one century it was the fifth European city by its population).
